Lecture Description:
At first glance, a theater stage manager and a corporate project manager seem to live in different worlds—one deals with headsets and fake blood, the other with spreadsheets and stakeholders. However, if you strip away the costumes, the core DNA of both roles is nearly identical.
This talk will focus on the following:
- The Lifecycle of a "Production" and the Project Life Cycle.
- Resource and Stakeholder Management
- Risk Mitigation and Crisis Control
- The Prompt Book and the Project Plan
Speaker Bio
Debra Gasper

Debra Gasper is the Ryan Family Producing Director for Shakespeare at Notre Dame. Deb is responsible for managing the practical needs of the artistic staff, crew, and performers for the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival and Actors From The London Stage. Debra has been a professional stage manager for 20+ years and is a member of Actor’s Equity Association. Debra back to the South Bend area from Louisville, KY, where she spent ten years as the resident stage manager for Actors Theatre of Louisville. She has also worked for various regional theatre around the country including touring a variety of productions. Debra has stage managed over 100 productions, including many musicals and large scale productions. Debra holds a Master of Science in Project Management and a Bachelor of Arts. in Theatre from Indiana University at South Bend, where she teaches stage management.
